Hot Tub Care, Cleaning and Maintinance...
To make sure you always get the most out of your hot tub it’s important to properly take care of it. This means performing regular checks and cleans. This may sounds like a bothersome chore, however keeping on top of your hot tub care is pretty easy if you follow a simple regime. Certain maintenance tasks need to be performed weekly, some monthly and some annually. Weekly checks only take a matter of minutes, while annual and monthly maintenance can save you a huge headache in the long run, and help increase the lifespan of your hot tub.
Weekly
Weekly checks take no more than five minutes. It’s important to check your waters chemistry to know your water is sanitary. Without proper chemical maintenance, such a small body of water will quickly become an unhealthy environment, and expose those who use it to a number of infection risks. But fear not, keeping nasty bacteria away is simple with our weekly maintenance tips.
Depending on the chemicals you are using to keep your tub sanitary (some may use
bromine, while others use
chlorine) you will need a set of test strips. The strips will test the waters bromine levels, PH and water hardness. The results will determine whether you need to adjust the chemical levels. Water hardness can affect the lifespan of your hot tub. In hard water calcium deposits can cause build up and give your water a ‘hard’ feel. If you live in a hard water area, you will need certain hot tub chemicals to reduce the calcium deposits in the water. Or you may want to fill your tub with water that has been pre-treated using a softener, rather than a hose pipe from the mains water supply.

Top Tip: Weekly filter clean.
Although it isn’t completely necessary to change your
hot tub filters weekly (the average recommendation is two to three weeks) keeping your filters clean is probably the easiest way to keep on top of your hot tubs cleanliness. We recommend having two sets of filters, and one clean at all times. This way you always have a clean filter to put in your tub, and can quickly clean the used filter and leave it to dry. You will also find cleaning your filter is much easier the more frequently it is cleaned. And will only take a matter of minutes to spray with a hose pipe.
Monthly
If you don’t want to clean your filter weekly, you can give it a thorough clean every two or three weeks instead. It’s also a good idea to clean the exterior of your tub monthly too. Make sure the cover is free of mould by cleaning and drying it thoroughly and treating any early signs of deterioration due to mould. Good
hot tub covers should be built to live outside, but the hot tub owner is also responsible for caring for their tub too. Check the hot tubs exterior shell, steps and the area around the tub for wear and damage too, and treat as appropriate.
Every Three Months
Every three to four months you will need to completely drain and clean your hot tub. It’s also important to flush your spa with a biofilm eliminator twice a year. However this should be done whilst the water is still running, so you may want to do this in between your three month cleans.
To perform a full drain and clean turn the power off, drain the water out using the drain plug, (this should be located at the bottom of your tub) and then remove any surface water with a clean towel. Spray your hot tub with a hot tub cleaner and wipe clean. You may want to use a white cloth or towel, so you can see the dirt you’re picking up, and when you can finish cleaning. Before you fill your tub again, make sure there is no cleaner residue, as this could cause your hot tub to foam up when it comes to using it again.
Annualy
